Advocates Secures Class Certification for Meal and Rest Break Claims Against Chocolate Works in Contra Costa Superior Court

Advocates for Worker Rights has achieved a significant procedural victory in the Contra Costa Superior Court, where the Court granted, Plaintiff America Morales’ motion for class certification Acorn Solutions, LLC, dba Chocolate Works East Bay. The Court certified key claims related to meal breaks, rest breaks,  allowing the claims to proceed as a class action on behalf of a group of non-exempt employees.

The ruling recognizes the common factual and legal issues affecting workers employed by Chocolate Works, including allegations of systemic denial of proper rest and meal periods. The Court also certified derivative claims under California’s Unfair Competition Law and Labor Code section 203.

This certification represents a meaningful step forward in holding employers accountable for wage and hour violations, and reinforces workers' right to fair compensation, breaks, and dignified treatment under California labor law.
